You live in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire
This service is available to people who just want a check up (without any symptoms).
If you have symptoms, we would prefer to see you at one of our clinics as we have more tests and treatments available. Information can be found here. If you have had syphilis treated in the past, the blood test on the postal kit will not be able to give us enough information and you should attend a clinic in person for testing.
You will need to provide a mobile number. Any information that you share will remain confidential within Unity.
The kits will be sent to you in a blank envelope with no reference at all to sexual health or testing. It might take up to 2 weeks to arrive in the post and results are available up to 15 working days after you send back your completed kit.
The postal kit tests includes:
Swabs +/-/or urine for chlamydia andgonorrhoea.
Blood sample for HIV and syphilis.
**ALERT 7.5.20** We are currently seeing an increase in syphilis in ALL groups, regardless of sexuality, gender or age. Please make sure you do the blood test included in the postal kit, even if you have had a blood test recently elsewhere (they may not have tested for syphilis). For help completing the blood test at home see the video below, or if you are worried or struggling with the blood test, call Unity Sexual Health to talk to a doctor or nurse (0117 342 6900).
There can sometimes be a delay before a test becomes positive after you have had sex. This is often referred to as the “window period” for testing.
Chlamydia and gonorrhoea – the window period is 2 weeks;
HIV – the window period is 4 weeks;
Syphilis – the window period is 12 weeks.
If you live in Bristol, North Somerset or South Gloucestershire and your post code is not accepted when you put in in please call us on 0117 342 9299 and we can add it to the system.
