Update on Unity services

For all Unity Sexual Health Services (Pregnancy advice, Contraception and Sexual health)  the main contact telephone number is 0117 342 6900.

The telephone line is open::

• • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday:  8.30 – 17.00
  • Wednesday:  8.30 – 14.00; 15.00 – 17.00 (closed between 14.00-15.00 for staff training)
  • Friday:  8.30 – 13.00
  • Saturday:  9.00 – 12.00

There is currently no walk-in service at Brook – to arrange a telephone consultation please ring 0117 929 0090.

Brook opening times are;

Monday – Thursday  12.00pm to 7:00pm

Friday –  Saturday 12.00pm to 5.00pm

The following Young People’s Clinics are open for booked appointments only:

• • Amelia Nutt   (Mondays 3.00 – 6.30pm)
  • Southmead     (Mondays 3.30 – 7.00pm)
  • Patchway        (Wednesdays 5.00 – 8.30pm)
  • Clevedon         (Thursdays 5.45 – 9.15 pm)
  • Lawrence Weston (Tuesdays   3.00 – 6.30pm)

These clinics will be available via booked appointments only.  Please call 0117 342 6900 to book an appointment.

It is possible our clinics may need to be closed at short notice. Please continue to check our website for future service updates.

WISH Clinic

The WISH Clinic is currently carrying out telephone consultations with the specialist nurses and consultant. If the outcome of the telephone consultation is that you are required to be seen then a face to face appointment will be arranged for you by the member of the team that you speak to.

We are sorry, but we are not currently accepting sit and wait patients.

If you wish to make an appointment or to speak to someone please call us on 01934 881234. Our telephone lines are usually busy, but we do work through the calls  and messages as quickly as we can. If you cannot get through when you first call, then please try again later. Thank you for your understanding and patience in these extraordinary times.

This service is only available for residents of Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

Please call 0117 342 6900 if you have severe symptoms or need advice urgently about a sexual health issue.

Some initial details of your symptoms will be taken and you will then be offered an appointment for a telephone consultation.

A doctor or nurse will then call you back at your appointment time.

Emergency contraception

• • If you are aged less than 25 years old, you can get this for free at any pharmacy or your GP.
  • If you are aged over 25 years old, you can buy oral emergency contraception from any pharmacy or contact your GP.
  • Call  0117 342 6900 if you are having difficulties in obtaining emergency contraception, or would like to discuss an emergency IUD.

If your coil or implant needs to be changed because it is out of date -please use condoms or an alternative method of contraception, as you may be at risk of pregnancy. Unity have a limited number of appointments available for routine coil and implant changes, therefore there may be a delay before it can be changed.

• If you are aged 20 or over please contact your GP in the first instance. They can refer you to Unity if necessary.
• If you are aged under 20 please call 0117 342 6900  for further discussion.

If you need contraceptive pills or the contraceptive injection (DepoProvera) you can call your GP to discuss this or request further supplies. If you do not have a GP  you can call Unity on 0117 342 6900

If you’re pregnant and are either considering an abortion or you are having difficulty making a decision about what to do, we are here to help.  We can provide impartial advice and support.

This number is available 24 hours a day. You can make the call yourself or someone else can make the call on your behalf.

• You will be asked for some routine information including your name and address and your GP details (if you have one). You will then be given a telephone or face to face appointment to discuss your options.

If you are having difficulty reaching a decision we can give you accurate information about how many weeks pregnant you are and your options.

• If you are under 18 years old you will need to identify a supporting adult (someone who is over 18) to support you during the abortion process. If you don’t have someone to ask, do not delay in making an appointment. Staff will help you plan your abortion.

If you’re pregnant and considering abortion, you are not alone.

1 in 3 UK women will have an abortion by the time they are 45 years old.

If you have warts and require treatment you can call   0117 342 6900 to request a telephone consultation.

Please note we have very limited availability of cryotherapy (freezing treatment).

Domestic violence and abuse is not acceptable. If you report this to Unity, police or other agencies it will be taken seriously.

Important: If you feel in immediate danger, dial 999 straight away and wait in a safe place for the police to arrive.

There are many organisations that can help. They can help with a range of issues from crisis intervention, advocacy, housing, to safety planning.
